U.S. remembers Sandy Hook shooting victims on 10th anniversary

Washington [US], December 15: The United States remembered Sandy Hook victims Wednesday on the 10th anniversary of the school shooting.
U.S. President Joe Biden said in a statement that he's "praying today for the Sandy Hook families and the innocent lives lost that day."
On Dec. 14, 2012, a shooter opened fire inside the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, killing 20 first-graders and six adults before taking his own life.
The incident is the deadliest mass shooting at an elementary school in U.S. history.
Biden said on Wednesday that he's "determined" to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines like those used at Sandy Hook and other mass shootings in the country.
"Enough is enough," he said. "Our obligation is clear. We must eliminate these weapons that have no purpose other than to kill people in large numbers."
However, it is unlikely for a ban on assault weapons to be approved by the U.S. Congress with Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives for the next term.
So far this year, the United States has suffered a series of high-profile mass shootings and lost more than 42,000 lives to gun violence, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
