Hanoi [Vietnam], February 5: Before achieving her current career, Dao Ky Anh spent time singing in cafes for a fee of 500,000 VND per night.
As an only child, Dao Ky Anh faced considerable hesitation from her parents when she expressed her desire to pursue a career in the arts. In the minds of many parents, the path of singing is always fraught with uncertainty, requiring many sacrifices and not easily leading to success.
Therefore, in the beginning, her family didn't fully support her choice . However, through her seriousness and determination to pursue her passion to the end, Dao Ky Anh gradually gained understanding and support from her parents.
Dao Ky Anh said that even while still in school, she actively participated in local arts and culture activities and performed regularly. Although she chose to study English Language, which was considered a stable major to reassure her family, her passion for music continued to find her.
Winning the university's student singing competition was a crucial turning point, opening up opportunities for Dao Ky Anh to participate in city-level competitions, receive performance invitations, and gradually appear on television programs.
In her early days in the arts, Dao Ky Anh faced many difficulties. Not coming from a wealthy family, she had to cover all her expenses herself, from honing her skills to investing in costumes and image. During her student years, Dao Ky Anh began singing with bands and performing acoustic shows at cafes for a modest fee. However, for her, that was a valuable time to gain experience and nurture her pure love for music.
"My career wasn't paved with roses like people imagine. Coming from a family with just enough resources, I had to work hard to hone my skills. When I sang at cafes, the salary was 500,000 VND per night. Although it was a small amount, I felt very happy. At that time, compared to other students, I was very lucky," she confided.
One of Dao Ky Anh's most unforgettable memories is her time with the band 4 One Band. Small coffee shop stages, after-work rehearsals, and moments spent together as teammates became crucial foundations for her professional growth. When she decided to pursue an independent career, Dao Ky Anh understood that she needed to be more courageous and work harder to live up to the trust and support of those who have always been there for her.
As her artistic career stabilized, her family became completely at ease and supportive of her choice. Although there were holidays when they couldn't be together due to her performance schedule, for Dao Ky Anh's parents, the greatest joy was seeing their daughter doing what she loved, being accepted and loved by the audience.
Back in 2022, the singer attracted attention when she revealed that she had gifted her parents two land ownership certificates after 5 years of singing. Dao Ky Anh shared: "When I received my first salaries, I sent money home to my family. My parents were very happy and proud, not because they received my money, but because they knew I had grown up and could support myself. Buying land for my parents is the result of 4-5 years of singing and my side job as a real estate broker and investor."
